I’m looking to bring together a small group of martial artists wishing to investigate the deeper principles of martial arts such as structural alignment, mechanical advantages and non-intention.

I'm currently studying Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do from Andrew Douglas (AndyD who posts on this forum), an instructor under Patrick Strong. I have also trained with Patrick Strong and Joel Weinberg (Chihand from www.chihand.com).

Experience with Chi Sau and the Sil Lum Tao are very important. I would be looking at training something like a 2-4 hour session 1-2 days per week to start with.

I live in Godalming (near Guildford) in Surrey so anyone wishing to partake would either live in the area or be able to travel regularly to there. If you are interested in training please let me know, my email address is simonlarcombe@yahoo.co.uk.

Just a heads up guys - while their stuff is not "my cup of tea" I know both Andy and Joel and they a good people and excel at what they do. If this material is the stuff that interests you then I urge you to give Simon a call.

I had the pleasure of meeting Starman yesterday, a great guy.

We spent what seemed like about 10 minutes (3 1/2 hours) running through a few things. We ran through some application based drills, structural alignments, Chi Sau, various ideas on kicking and punching etc. and shared a lot of ideas.

Our approaches are very different, but interestingly we were both able to take a lot from the session.

Starman is a very experienced practioner and I look forward to training with him again.

Thank you Simon for an entertaining evening, I am surprised that more people haven’t responded to your invitation. There is always something new to learn and understand, and experience techniques from a different point of view. I am still trying to put in practice the amassing grounding technique you showed me, (so easy to show so difficult to explain) and in the future I hope to share other techniques with you.

Hi Starman,

I will be at Simon's several times over the next few months. If you wish, you are welcome to come and train.

I live in Woking, but have absolutely no experience of Chi Sau nor Sil Lum Tao, which is why I didn't respond earlier. Would be interested in looking into other training methods though, and sharing ideas.

Thank you for the invite Andy, let me know the times and I will definitely like to meet up.

LilbunnyRabbit, personally I don’t think it makes a difference which MA you do the main thing is you’re open minded to test different types of attacks and defences and we ALL understand and come away with an alternative point of view. (I hope you agree Simon)

Another point to come out of my meeting with Simon was that we both classify our art as version of Wing Chun however we practiced and executed it TOTALLY differently to one another, so the question is what is Real Wing Chun and when is it a totally different Art? Even though it’s based on Wing Chun principles

Yet another point (of many) was how similar specific moves were to other MAs

I travel all over the M25 area so meeting up is not a problem (London and surrounding area anyway)

Hi Andy,

Are you in these parts on any other dates maybe a day earlier or a day later?
I travel London wide regularly. So another area is just as good. If not I can meet up with you later Monday evening around 8 or 9 pm. Let me know if that’s any good to you

Sure, drop me a PM, plans have moved on, but there's no reason why I can't include you in them.

Hey Simon,

Starman and I have just been playing Kung Fu superheroes in a pub beer garden.

Sorry we missed you.

Hi Andy

It's a shame! I guess we'll catch up sooner or later :)

I'm glad you two managed to anyway... I'm writing an interface to SAP at the moment and I can assure you it's not very interesting!

I did get some training done over the weekend though, with a guy in Cologne. Did some good stuff.
