If its what it sounds like then I think most toddlers have picked up on the basic idea, otherwise I don't know.

We use the term "splashing hands" in Sikal ... and it looks like it's the same principle as is being used in those videos.

I believe it comes from the Silat side of Sikal ... I know where we commonly use the term is in a Silat form that we do.

What we mean by it, though, is fluid and relaxed strikes (can be strikes with anything ... punches, kicks, elbows, knees, shins, forearms, head, shoulders, etc ... but done in a fluid and relaxed manner). They hit very rapidly and hard.

It's not injurious so much as disorientingly painful and because of the nature of the strikes, they tend to disrupt balance, too.

I've also heard the principle referred to as "Lazy Hands" in Shen Chuan and "Heavy Hands" (I forget where I heard that one).

On the receiving side, it feels like getting hit by an incredibly quick octopus that has wet rags attached to the end of its tentacles ... for lack of a better description.

I've heard of this in connection to Tai Chi and some schools of Kung Fu. Pretty much what Mike said, relaxed fast flowing strikes (probably open handed) aimed at battering someones defence by numbing muscles.

Sorry, don't know much more than that.

I would sugest you to have a look at Sifu James McNiels home page "Nine little havens" . He is one of few instruktors in the streetfight art of Splashing hands and maby his sight could give you some answers. If you are interested in training he have seminars and courses in USA and all over the world.

I use something like dat.

Yu have to be relaxed and the move fluid, otherwise energy is waisted being tense and with unnessisary (?) movement.

Try getting in touch with MAP member SliqueRick, he studies Splashing Hands as part of his Kung Fu training.

if you're talking about a certain technique, splashing hands would probably be in a fair amount of styles. but if you're talking about the actual system splashing hands, i can tell you about it. i am a current practitioner of splashing hands & i study under Sifu James McNeil. Not very many people know about this style & it's a shame b/c I have found it to be very effective. So, to clear up any confusion, just ask me about it.

If you want my teacher's website..it is www.littlenineheaven.com there you will find information on splashing hands. splashing hands was developed at the Shaolin Temple in northern China in the late 1700s. It is an in-close fighting system that was taught to the monks who were in charge of guarding the temple gates. it is named for the way the hands move as if one was shaking water from them, and is valued for its explosive, high-speed hand and footwork and its simultaneous offensive and defensive techniques. the footwork is fast paced and draws power to the hand techniques. it is said to have been a precursor to wing chun.

Hi Keith, just a little edit as your link wasn't working.

What do you mean about Spashing Hands being a Pre Cursor to Wing Chun?
