Both.
Don't do the same thing everytime or you will get predictable, and then hit.

Not to mention trying to parry some things with the rear hand just won't work. Something similar to a lead leg hook kick from an opposite-lead stance will not be parry-able. Neither will a rear leg roundhouse kick from a same-lead stance. Then again, it's never a good idea to try and parry something that strong anyways.

For me, parry's should be used as a last resourt. The best thing to do is not to try and parry then counter but go out on an all out offensive. Flurry blows and kicks at your enemy and destry them. :D
Okay, that's my rant over with, parries should really be used as a last option, as I said. There are circular, semi circular parries which come from fencing and so many more. I like to stick to basics though so just push your opnents blow away from you with the slightest force in order to conserve energy and use their power against them.

In boxing we regually practice the rear hand parry against jabs, then following right through with a retaliation. Obviously if you keep doing it then your going to get predictable, and a bloody nose as a consequence...
It's helped me on various occasions, especially the time i was sparring a friend whom i hadnt sparred in a while, i randomally kept parrying his jab and retaliating which would keep him back and make him think twice about jabbing...

Personally I would use the parries as a last resort as many of the guys here have pointed out, and I also agree that why parry when you can counter and attack the opponent and destroy him :)
It also depends on which way you're going to towards the opponent. If you slip in left/right, it depends on which hand you can parry with.............................then go in for the kill!! :D

why block when you could trap the leg, go for some muscle destructions and take him out?
or why not have better footwork to create some distance between you and the kick?

Well, if you really wanna talk about the primary thing you should be trying to do, Jeet Tek! POW! Nothing makes a guy pause and go "what the hell just happened?" better than having his kick literally stopped.

my opinion dont care what hand has to parry ,do anything cuz your going to get in a fight and your going to be worring which hand to parry, see in my style that i teach, its free no set patterns no set ways its all free flow ,so parry with both dont limit your self man.and also counter attack with anything go all out cuz in a fight you will
doh.. how could I forget that. not just stopping his kick ..but possibly breaking something inthe process as well
