Anyone study American Kenpo?
Why does it always seem that kenpo clubs are McDojoish in nature?
Honest question...how many black belts does Tracy's (and I know it's a different system) Kenpo have? Can't you video tape yourself and get your black?

you are just regurgitating stuff you have heard somebody else regurgitate. Go find out for yourself.
How many Kenpo schools have you visited and evaluated and determined are not offering real value to their students? Somewhere short of a representative sample I'm sure.

If you're ever in the OKC (Oklahoma City) area, let me know. I'll take you to the American Kenpo Bu-jutsu school I frequent. That's only if you like to get hit. Oh and bring a cup because they kick and knee full force to the groin. You might walk out with a couple bruises, maybe a black eye, anything is possible.

If only I could...I live in CANADA! We are a full contact dojo as well, it would be fun.

Yes, I've always enjoyed the "love" of full contact.
I don't know about Tracy's school or other Kenpo schools. We only have one here in OKC but the way testing is done there is you don't know you're testing. Just one day, Ron basically informs you that you passed whatever level is your next.
You're pretty much tested everyday. So, there's no formal testing like in many schools...pretty unorthodox, but it works for him and his students.

I've never known American Kenpo to be "McDojo" in nature. In fact traditionally kenpo has been taught through one-on-one private instruction or perhaps 2 or 3 students (at the same rank level) per class. It has been my experience that the really good kenpo teachers are difficult to find because they don't advertise. You have to go find them and even the ones with impressive lineages sometimes will even teach kenpo out of a cold garages. I wonder if anyone else has the same impression.

While I believe in good strong trainning,(23 years) I have my own Tracy club in Corpus Christi, TX. I'm 49, and I question hard hits to head now, because I'm seeing "floaters" in my eyes. While head gear is used, I also have to work for a living like most of you, and can't afford to lose my job a s a teacher.
Also, the ins is a requirement, and don't want my students pushed to the point, it will go to them getting hurt, getting sued and leaving. I don't depend on the school for income, but because I want to teach.
Certainly not dictating to anyone, but interjecting some points, things you may already know.
