train well = live well
train so so = live so so
train bad = live bad
I guess the billions of people who don't train at all have a pretty messed up life then. I guess only martial artists have a good life. The other 90% of the world is made up of miserable fools.
If they only knew what we know...

Us true martial artists know better than to use cellphones all the time(especially at gas stations) because we train. We don't use cells while driving. because we train. We don't get into stupid fights because we train.
NICE CUBICLE CAN I COME IN?? Gotta make the train. AArrGGHH I'm in gridlock and I'm layin on the horn. I'm busy busy busy carpal tunnel. Some of the things non trainers lose their cool with. or improper trainers as well.
the best weapon a true warrior can have nowadays is his/her cell. WHEn used properly

in a way i agree with what you say but IMO MAers only live well because they can find peace through their training and because they learn to control their temper. if an MAer doesnt control their temper it could result in serious injury or death to someone, so that is always at the back of their minds.

I read it four times, but I still don't get it.
I have to say that I also still don't completely get it after reading it a few times...

I don't really understand the profound meaning of the quote Jurassic Warrior. Perhaps you'd care to explain your interpretation of it to one so uneducated as i? :)

train well = live well
train so so = live so so
train bad = live bad
Or to paraphrase
If you put a lot of effort into the things you do, you'll get a lot out of them
If you put a bit of effort in, you'll get a bit of out of things.
If you put in no effort, you'll have a pretty poor time.
Obvious, but probably worth stating nonetheless.
Us true martial artists know better than to use cellphones all the time(especially at gas stations) because we train. We don't use cells while driving. because we train. We don't get into stupid fights because we train.
I think you need to drop the idea that martial artists are somehow better/clever people than everyone else.
That's simply not true.

I think the point he was trying to make was that how hard we train is a reflection of how we are in real life. For example, someone who puts a lot of effort into training is likely to be a more contientious person in everything he does. Someone who never bothers to train (because he doesn't feel like it rather than time constraints) is more likely to be a lazy person who doesn't give anything in life 100%. Sort of makes sense in a way, but only to a point.
I think Jurassicwarrior is trying to be misterious. The Yody/mr.Miyagi kind of thing.
I agree with Kgirl that I sense a feeling of superiority from JW towards non-MA'ists, but I think he brings it in a funny way :D

An actual case of elitist thinking. What is a "true Martial Artist" anyway?

A true martial artist is someone who does the best they can regardless of anyone else. or anything else.

So an carpenter who worked really hard wouldn't get these benefits as well? I don't think i'm better than anyone because I do martial arts. And doing martial arts must have SOME bad effect on you. For instance ruining any martial arts film you watch for everyone by saying how thats wrong, this is too fake etc
I still get stressed at things like being stuck in traffic...i don't see how martial arts training will help that.
I prefer
"train hard, fight easy...."

I'm referring to martial artists. not carpenters. BTW, most people I know critizise modern MA flicks. The old ones are better. Carpenters would probably get these benefits too. I'll have to ask one sometime.

I understand to a certain extent, but some people get their relaxation from something else such as sport...
I like to call it the "training high", when I feel on top of the world for the few hours afterwards.

Umm, yea I'm with KGirl. Yes people who train with disipline and repect will be able to control their temper a bit more. NO, we are not more clever....like Kgirl said. NO we do not use cell phones less.
So let me get this stright because we "US" train in MA we are now...um...a peron that....ok someone help me out here.

A true martial artist is someone who does the best they can regardless of anyone else. or anything else.
I knew a person like that once, and I think people ike those are called achievers.
"Regardless of anyone else." What about the rights of other people? The martial arts were originally designed as systematic methodologies for studying warfare. Do you feel that since we train in techniques used for war we are immediately "superior" than other human beings?
The Nazis annihalated Jews just because they believed that the Jew as a race is something o be excised from humankind. Is your thinking any different?

Hey! I'm surprised you remember it...
It's kind of on the backburner, I don't have time to develop much new at the moment due to family and work commitments. I have been teaching beginners' kickboxing at the school where I teach, which has been very useful; I've also been taking "Applied" Ju Jitsu to broaden my grappling base.
And actually through all that, I've become more convinced that Gunlann is a worthwhile pursuit. The basic principle (having a small base of techniques so you can get very familiar with them) seems sound.

No i don't I never stated that MAers, true MAers or achievers were superior to other human beings. WE all have the same amt of chromosomes. The above mentioned groups are those who take what life throws at them and just keeps on truckin. Doesn't make them "superior", just more pragmatic.

I'm sorry, but I got that impression from you with this post:

The "regardless of anyone else" is what really bothered me. Does this mean that you believe that a true martial artist has no consideration for other people?

My motto is to always train like you mean it.
If u train so-so then when u really need to defend yourself then you will be so-so in your defence and you will get hurt!
There are no compromises, only coffins.

I suppose that is good then. People need to learn that joining a martial arts club is no different than getting a membership from a health club. Heck, a so-called black belt can still get beat up by a common street thug.

I can see what he means, but, I didn't like the train bad= live bad part...Only because it makes no sense though. If someone has no idea what the hell to do (i.e. some whitebelts)and trains improperly, your saying it reflects on all aspects of their life, therefor they lead "bad" lives, THAT MAKES NO SENSE. When I was a whitebelt I felt I was living a good life, but that was mainly because I was learning karate and I liked the way that people in the dojo viewed life.
