could someone tell me some information on this art?
im thinking of crosstraining , i want some competion( i just heard there will be ju jitsu olympics in the future)
also i heard that nagare cover quite a good groundwork syllabus,

ive been to there site , but i got distracted by the music, and it didnt really tell me much about what they do.

i would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me about this art

I'd personally not bother. I had a look through the various video clips and saw nothing even remotely resembling real intent in any attack. They go on in their throwing section about how their school emphasises balance breaking while others don't, but for most of the throws I watched, the uke's feets were still firmly on the ground at the point of throwing (ie, not enough balance breaking). The escapes from holds were just choreographed sequences that probably wouldn't work half as well against an attacker determined to hold on....

Overall I'd say that there's some good content there but if the video clips show some of the best they have to offer (which is what you'd expect from an ad really) then I'd give it a miss.

an awful lot of use of sacrificial throws.. I'm just a n00b but I'd prefer takedowns/throws that didn't result in me being on the ground as well.

thx for the replys guys,
ill go just to see what they do next friday, but if ill keep an eye out for realistic "hands on" training

i was interested in the aiuchi organisation, but then i saw the words "we do not do sparring cause our techniques are far to dangerous"
this put me off :eek:

I'd personally recommend the aiuchi orginisation. They're an offshoot of the style I do, and while we don't spar in the usual sense of the word we do have other means of pressure testing our stuff, defending against random attacks with and without weapons involved. The usual reason given for not bothering with the usual type of sparring is that the chances of you coming across an opponent on the street who also knows jujutsu is very unlikely, so we concentrate on learning the defensive movements which involve real balance breaking, disorientating strikes and then either good body mechanics or pain manipulation (not necessarily mutually exclusive) to control and/or throw the opponent.

My instructor has a phrase he likes to use: "Most arts spar one-on-one. We spar many on one, and put some weapons into the mix too". I've seen a couple of styles of jujutsu before this one, both of which had sparring, and neither of which was anywhere near as good for self defence. Make of this what you will :)

ahh ic

so,if i joined the aiuchi organisation, do you think i would be allowed to take part in oylmpic ju jitsu events in the future?
because its really exciting to see that ju jitsu is being accepted into the the competion area.

also which style of ju jitsu do you pracitse?

if your main interest is the sporting side of things especially the olympics perhaps you would be better off with judo, although to be an olympian in any sport you have to be one of the best in your country.

i wanted to do judo, but its too far away.

Sorry, I missed this at first!

The Jitsu foundation and the Aiuchi orginisation probably aren't the best bet if you want to go for the Olympics, as the Olympic style of jujutsu is probably a hybrid of Judo and Karate sparring, which isn't something either organisation practices on a regular basis.

I'm a member of the Jitsu Foundation, and most of my training is self defence, with some Judo from time to time.
