Takemusu Aiki Edinburgh will be holding a 2 day seminar in Edinbugrh on April 24/25th 2004, at craiglockhart sports center, Colinton road(venue to be confirmed). The course will be run by Matt Hill 4th dan who spent two straight years living as Uchi deshi to Saito sensei in Iwama. As would be expected Matt has a very high standard of Iwama Aiki/Takemusu aiki, and has a fantastic teaching system that most people find very easy to understand .
The course as usual is open to all Aikidoka if they have insurance and weapons although some weapons may be available from our clubs. A little knowledge of ken/jo suburi(Iwama) would be helpful but not to important
For more details see our fantastic new web site www.aikido-of-edinburgh.com

Unfortunatly only if you have a basic understanding of Aikido and its weapons. The main reason is that its not a seminar introducing Aikido. Its an extremely intense course on Aikido. Its hard enough having different styles of Aikido there to try and teach them our basics and then the weapons system is very different to all other martial schools. It would mean the instructor spending alot of time on the basics which would stop the class from moving on. But if you do have Aikido experiance then plaese come along.

The point about weapons has been raised, no point ignoring it now.

I remember the last Iwama seminar with Paulo Corralini, where for a period of about 40 minutes a lot of people were left standing around being ignored because all the high ranking Iwama practitioners were doing advanced weapons practice. No accounting had been made for the rest of us...even I with 2 years Iwama experience was forced to just stand around as members of my own club ignored us while they got their money's worth.

Not an entirely pleasant experience.

When exponents such as Patrick Cassidy teach seminars, they can use even basic suburi as such an enlightening teaching tool that anyone of any school can have an enjoyable time.

Then paulo was well out of order if he left students standing around. Very sorry for you having experianced very bad teaching. Do you mean you were doing nothing or getting bored with suburi if its the first im very sorry he should have at least helped with saburi. There is the point that if begginers cant do saburi properly, which means a hell of lot more than being able to stand with one foot infront of the other and lift a bit of wood above there head. Then there is no point in doing anything else because you will never understand it, there is nothing more important in buki waza than years and years of solid saburi. but once again im sorry for this happening there are alot of people in aikido who have very bad teaching ethics. i can promise you matt hill is not one of these people you will reall y enjoy him if youy come along mark.
