Played the demo. Loved it. Will buy it.

What can I say, any game that has me using the right analog stick constantly and with good reason has to be good. The multifight system isn't the typical "lock on to whoever you want to attack", it's "slap the right analog stick to where you want your limbs to start pounding", which makes it look like an actual Jet Li movie.

Sorry, Cain. Seems like the control scheme was custom-built for the PS2.

Oh, and by the way, the voiceovers are in Cantonese.

k, let me ask you a question.
is the game good enough that if it didn't have jet li in it, it's still worth purchasing?

Yes, because the action (fight moves and camera angles both) is still coreographed by Corey Yuen, and the fight system alone is innovative enough to warrant a purchase.

Demo for PS2 :D

Right analog stick? Oh man, that kind of scares me in a new innovative way shattering the old way of doing things. But I trust your judgement so I'll give it a shot.

*patiently waits for MAP members to crack a joke about my judgement*

Anyway, I'll be getting the game TOMORROW!

And if the enemy AI in the demo is any indication (they don't patiently wait to strike one at a time like in the movies, they rush you at once like in real life), that right analog stick is gonna come in REAL handy :D

RISE TO HONOR: THE REVIEW

I remember one of my favorite games was Resident Evil 2 (Didn't get to play the first). Great gameplay, great story, great fights. The only thing that pissed me off?

Too damn short!

Sadly, this cool, fun game suffers the same problem (finished it in under ten hours). Definitely worth a rental. Unless, of course, the little bonuses from finishing it once are enough to make you play again on the hard level...

Like this fun bonus :D (http://www.eternalskies.com/videos/rth_000.wmv)

*ahem* anyway...

Mode One: Fighting

The most fun mode. For the first few levels, the enemies are complete idiots. They raise their fists, yell in Cantonese, then charge at you. However, as the game progresses, they start learning a few things. For one, while you're performing a combo on one of their buddies, they'll launch a four-hit combo behind your back, sending you flying across the room. Next, they learn how to grab you and smash your face on the wall. And after that? They go all Agent Smith and literally swarm you. The final battle, when done right, looks nothing less than a classic "Once Upon A Time In China" battle, complete with near-endless counters and, you guessed it, the legendary "Shadowless Kick". Similar to Contra, you can make them cry for their mothers effortlessly if you know which pattern of attack to use. Oh, did I forget about the eskrima? Yep, you can grab two sticks in each hand (they don't even have to be sticks, just anything you can pick up, including baseball bats and chicken!) and start playing drums on people's heads. Don't get too cocky, though, the goons seem to know eskrima too (you have an actual "Eskrima Showdown" with about 20 other people in San Francisco).

Mode Two: Shooting

This comes as a very, very close second to the fighting mode. You two-fist a pair of whatever firearms you can grab (they're always in pairs) and start blasting away. Hell, you can even go all Matrix-ey and do a slow motion dive while shooting at regular speed. Sure, you can only do this for a limited amount of time (you need the "adrenaline" bar filled a bit for it to work), but it still allows you to abuse by altering the rules of physics, allowing you to change your direction and orientation during the jump. Just look out for the incredible hospital segment...the shooting is incredible!

Mode Three: Stealth

Okay, this is kind of annoying. Basically, you sneak into a place, knock out guards with one hit, and if discovered, the game ends. Seriously, they just discovered you. After tearing up and endless number of goons in the previous levels, this concept seems a little dumb. Thankfully, there are very, very few of these, and in the last one, they give you a reason why you were doing all this hiding. Sort of. Oh, did I mention that not knocking out the guards immediately will reward you with interesting conversations? For example:

Guard 1: Hey, are you gonna get that "Rise To Honor Game"?
Guard 2: I saw the commercial, man. It was kickass!

So basically, it's a very fun game, although way too short for my taste (I'm an RPG fan). If it's too short for your taste as well, just go rent it. I give it 8/10.

If you need tips, just ask :D

notes:
The game menu is designed as if it were a movie DVD. The levels are "Chapters" that can be selected in an actual "Chapter Select" menu, and the bonuses (Character Animations, Level Outlines, and Storyboards. But come on, all you really wanna see is the "Making Of" feature, right? ;)

Oh, a little question...

Dude (http://www.eternalskies.com/videos/rth_form01.wmv)
Babe (http://www.eternalskies.com/videos/rth_form02.wmv)

...are these actual forms?

i hate short games. some of the best games are too short.... those are the only things that hold them back
