Do I take it martial arts? Nope.
But what I am is a lurker on these boards and I have a 6 year old (Sr. Green Belt) and a 4 year old (Tiger Cub) doing TKD in the ITA (Alliance) group.
So I figured like any good parent should, I'd read up and see what some of the message boards are saying.

I wish more parents would take the time as you are to acquaint themselves with the martial arts for the sake of their kids in training.....
I have a feeling you'll be training in the near future! ;)

oh, and the filth coming out of some people's mouths is NO indication of what is happening in a TKD class :D

Tom,
Your belt is the same color as both your girls. Are they also 1st Dans? That's quite an accomplishment.

Funny! The kid in the middle is my son. When I get around to taking/posting some updated pics, it will be noticeable that Dave is now almost as big as his old man.
This photo is one of my favorite pics of me any my kids. It was taken on the Fourth of July 2002, we marched in the local parade with our school. David and I were High Red back then and Isabelle was Red Belt. Today Dave and I are 1st Dans, Isabelle is Brown.
Thanks Eightfold Path for looking and commenting.

Maybe in a few years my wife and I will start. We both thought about it, but figure it's better for the boys to be in it right now instead of us. We get the joy of going to the competitions with them and watching the black belt sparring.
Currently with 2 boys in it, belt tests, and the time to ferry them back and forth and until Houston's IT economy gets better its just them for now. Plus, the time for adults at the school the boys go to is from 8-9 pm M-F, and I can't just really justify the time for us to leave the boys (and 1 yr old daughter) that often at night, maybe when they all get older.
We go with them to their classes and help them at night with their forms. I still can swat my oldest kid's head so I'm doing something right. :D

I know exactly what you mean. We are about 4 years past the "dark years" where we couldn't afford to do anything and even if we could, we had to accomodate the little ones. It would be impossible to have a hobby that requires 3 days/week where you have to have someone watch your child. I would have never been able to take up TKD if my wife was not willing to allow me to be out to class.
My son has grown some since that photo was taken, and he is getting too big for the kids high belt classes. He just started going to the adult Black Belt classes this week. So finally after all this time, TKD is becoming a father/son thing, this is kinda neat.
Well SoonerJRJ, it's good to hear about your kids and I look forward to hearing about your personal TKD adventures, it's just a matter of time. :D

Welcome to MAP, sir.
While I'm not a father (don't you guys start), I do have 4 nephews--5,2,1, and 2 months. I look forward to teaching them. Must train harder. :)
