hey whats up everyone
my name's brian
i just wanted to introduce myself as well as gather some opinions regarding wich style i should take up
i am 14 years old 6/7/89
i am 5'9"-5'10" and wiegh around 150 lbs
i am in pretty good shape although i have a vast amount of space for improvement
i can do a full front split, and am about 7-10 inches away from a straddle
i really want to perfect my kicks and get as flexible as i possibly can, but i am also interested in the philosophies of jkd and some of the techniques
if anyone could give me suggestions it would be greatly appreciated
i have some pictures of my kicks and others if you would like to see what im working with
peace, brian

I would recommend kenpo. It is good practical self defense street oriented. I have used it many times in street fights in my past. Show us more pics I love ma pics. I will post some when I get the time to get a shot. I would also keep my guard up when kicking. Very nice flexibility. If you want to perfect your kicks then take itf taekwondo. I do not think tkd is good by itself it has no ground fighting. I train in a itf tkd kickboxing system with a few more little things added. wtf taekwondo or muay thai will injur you. Tang soo do may be good but I am not familar with it. If you plan on going in a ring then do muay thai for kicks. The ring will probly injur you anyways.

Welcome to MAP.

As to styles, we've all been there. See what's available, try them out and go from there. If interested in jkd principles, why not start with Wing Chun Kuen as a base and go from there (just an idea).

I subscribed to "the instructor matters more than style" school of thought, however I am old. :D

Is this an unbiased opinion then? I dont know many Muay Thai clubs or WTF clubs that would agree with you that injuries are an essential part of their training. And Id also say that regardless of if your going into a ring or not Muay Thai is pretty good for kicks.

If your looking for improving your flexibility and kicking then Id definitely recommend Tae Kwon Do of any form, maybe Wu Shu or maybe even Capoeira? Id also second, what El Tejon said about Wing Chun, certainly not a bad start... alternatively off course you could just find a JKD school ;)

ahh, ignorance may not be bliss, but it certainly is entertaining for spectators.

thanks for some of the suggestions guys, i am thinking about taking up either wushu or tae kwon do and then later on taking part in some jeet kune do classes, although ive heard many outlooks and fighting techniques in tkd are very impractical.
thanks and i hope to keep posting on this site so i can absorb "everything usefull, and disregard anything useless" haha
your right i do need some work on my kicks :(

No not really. I will be going to a mma school with muay thai kicks mixed in it (don't really care about muay thai but the other stuff in there). I just don't suggest it. How many old wtf tkders do you see? I have hemophilia a and cannot fight in a ring so I see no point in learning muay thai. I wanted to do cage fighting but my doc says no full contact. It all depends on what the person wants to do. He never mentioned ring or cage fighting. Kenpo is more well rounded than muay thai or wing chun that is why I mentioned it. Kenpo also has nice kicks that do not go above the ribs.

"kicks and get as flexible"
That is tkd's world. Muay thai doesn't do sidekicks far as I know or other kicks. All I know is they got a hell of a roundhouse or different types of roundhouses (all I see from them is roundhouses not a bad thing at all). Tkd has many more kicks than muay thai. If he said kicks for the ring I would mention kickboxing or muay thai.
