Have we forgotten what it is to be human?

For millenia the human species has adapted and evolved to master its environment, ultimately creating its own.

Now it appears we are the victims of our own environments. We create new and more fabricated environments, which propells the species towards ever adapting biology and psychology. Now look at the state we are in. We need specialists to tell us how to eat properly and "diet". We need specialists to remind us how to think so we don't die from a stress related condition. Specialists tell us how we should dress, decorate our homes, make love. Ever evolving ideas are created ~ new fads that help detoxify and relax, become better people. We invent more and more persuits to distract ourselves from the mundane hum drum that is life. We go in search of spirituality only to get a sense of the enormity of what we don't know.

What is it to be human? Have we forgotten?

I forgot once, but then I remembered again. I quit my job and took one that was paying a little less than half and 'found myself' again.

I don't intend to let it happen again.

What is it to be human though? what exactly has been 'forgotten'?

Transition is what we are experiencing currently I reckon, for thousands of years we had to farm the land and war against our neighbours and pioneer new territories just to survive - this has meant being 'human' i.e. being at the top of the food chain and 'above' all other animals...

That's mostly all over now and these things no longer accurately reflect our future, we are in transition waiting for the next challenge/phase of our collective experience.

Meanwhile the word is at compacity hence all the stress & disease being rife. This is unlikely to go down as one of the greatest era's in human civilisation, lets face it, despite all our 21st century advances 2/3 of the worlds 6 billion humans live in abject poverty whilst 1/3 on them have it so bad they teeter on the balance of starvation on a daily basis.

Our enviroment and ecosystem is also on the brink of collapse intensive breeding/farming/consumerisim to sustain such a huge and densly populated world is just not sustainable (avain flu, BSE, e-coli, SARS, Beijing type Flu's, global pandemics all these are symptomatic).

So if we completely master and conquer 'nature' and dictate our own law on the cosmos what will it mean to be human then? I dunno know...lol...

Biologically, we're still human. We do, unfortunately, walk down a very ignorant path. The damage we do to ourselves and our world every day is awful. The Native Americans had it right, imo.

Define human. 4 limbs, 10 fingers, etc? We can't really change that. Being stupid and cruel? Humans have always been like that. Just expressed it in a different fasion. Instead of not knowing basic math, reading, etc, we've lost common sense. Instead of beheading everybody that goes against us, we find ways to mentally kill people. You can't go up to someone and kick him in the groin, but you can ruin his day by pointing out one of his numerous flaws (Because we ALL have them, and the only reason we insult others is because we are insecure and doing it makes us feel better about ourselves. I know this first hand).

I've said this before on this forum, its our stone-age programming thats the problem we are predatory pack animals programmed to out-compete (or just destroy) other groups in order to survive and pass on our DNA material.

The world we have built for ourselves will never be peaceful until we learn to curb these animal instincts and live in peace.

i.e.

Middle East - happily worship in a mosque with a synagogue next door? no, seize the land to build the synagogue and then keep the other people in servitude so they can't build thier mosque and if they complain kill them and move onto thier land.

Former Yugoslavia - Tuesday, pop next door to the nieghbours and ask to borrow their lawnmower. Wednesday pop next door kill the nieghbour and then rape and murder his womenfolk and hide the evidence in a mass grave.

Look at "the war against terrorism" (aka "****"...lol...) too. The common sense thing would be to try and sort out the problems that lead to such drastic measures being taken by people on both sides. Instead, no, lets just try and outcompete the other side and eventually somone will win and we all live in fear and anger until then....

"Common sense" and "humanity" two sentiments that sadly just don't go together. Just like "Military" and "Intelligence" or even just "Happy" and "Shopper"...lol...

Madness.

Rome did not create a great empire by going to meetings and conferences.
They did it by killing all that stood in their way.

That is what it is to be human. A struggle for power. Greatness. Every single being on this earth searches for a greater purpose. Sometimes good. Mostly bad. People won't give up their "Power" for anything, once they've taken much time and work to earn it. Compare a Billionaire's money to Martial Arts skills. A Billionaire has probably worked hard for his money, and is quite proud he has done so. So has a Martial Artist. Everything has a balance in it. Exceed the balance and, well, it's not too good. Which would lead to people thinking it's a good idea to put gas into the gas station rather than perfecting the electric car. Pollution. Death. Madness. Crime. Chaos.

Money more important than life to the odd number of people? You bet it is.
