I have looked everywhere for a decent Kusari-gama. Iv'e seen the upsetting kamas with 2-foot chains that people pass off as kusari-gamas and that just pisses me off. can anyone help me out and tell me where I can buy 1 authentic one and one for training made of wood or something?

Go to Winjutsu.com and check out their links. And check out **** Severance's site, www.n-i-n.com. **** makes some great training weapons, and some beautiful "real" ones.

You know I dont live far from this guy (Severance), I've actually seen a few of his sessions at the local park. Any one know if this guy is legit? I know the Bujinkan grades to 15th dan and this guy claims to be 13th. From what I saw at the park every one was wearing camoflauge cargo pants, black Ts, and tabi boots. I thought it was a bit odd but not nearly as bad as the 'stealth suit' groups I've seen. I train with John Wilson of the Canadian bujinkan when ever he is down for a visit, and he is of equal rank. Im surprised he has never mentioned this guy.

(Let's try this)

Yes, "Richard" is legit. I met him the first time at Hayes' 1982 Ninja Festival, when Hatsumi came over for the first time. The book Mystic Arts of the Ninja? The staff that Hayes is holding? "Richard" made that. Last ran into him at the last Tai Kai. He is legit, just because someone hasn't heard of him doesn't mean they're being disrespectful. Just means they haven't been around as long as you and I.

Goodness.... I've been taken before by some one who has misrepresented his credentials. As a consumer Im only looking to protect myself and my potential investment. From the people I have contacted I am assured his rank is legit. In addition to that he seems to be held in high regard. So I consider myself very fortunate at the moment. I do not consider it disrespectful to question some one's credintials when looking to start training and I believe more people should do the same. After all if they are legit they should have no problems proving it and should be happy to do so. After all it is a lifetime achievment, I know I would be proud of it. He trains every other Saturday, Ill give him a go in a few weeks.

I don't blame you for questioning someone's credentials.I do all the time. Otherwise, how do we assure ourselves that we are being taught the real deal and not a rip off? Sometimes we ahve to remember that just because WE have never heard of someone, doesn't mean they aren't legit. After all, how many people know who I am? Or my instructor?

I didnt mean to make him out that he wasnt, it was a 'man this is to good to be true' kind of thing :)

No no no.... I was agreeing with you. Matter of fact, you should especially check someone out if they sound to good to be true. It's the only way to ensure that you are getting quality training.
