View Full Version : Half Marathon - rest days vs other training

I was thinking of running a half marathon later in the year, but all the training schedules I've read specified rest days should be rest days. Is there any way I can still continue with my strength training at the gym?

My wife is training for a half marathon here in a few weeks. She's running three times a week and lifting twice as her cross-training. It's tough but you can do it. Her current setup is run-lift-run-rest-run-lift-rest. It depends on your schedule but it's certainly possible to do both.

Maybe practice tempo runs at least once or twice a week gradually building up the mileage to get the feel of how your body will do.This may hopefully help build your confidence and strength and many other advantages.

the Great Eastern Run isn't until October so I should have started training in earnest by August
