Do u believe fighting brings fighting!! u beat a fighter today he will try to bit u !! if ur bitten then u will try hard to bit him again!! there the start of chain reaction !! there will start of hate, pain of loosing!! a kinda chain reaction!!
We all know Martial art is taught to bring peace!! not to be skilled to be a fighter but a man who can bring peace without fighting!!
its my opinion , what about u guys!!

Interesting post, this very thing has been on my mind a lot recently concerning an incident I was involved in over the weekend. It basically involved me getting jumped by a large group of guys who are known to go looking around for individuals indiscriminately to jump. They have a large posse out after them and me being known for my abilities was recently invited to join this manhunt against this gang. Of course I have to battle between my pride and my conscience to choose which route I want to take. Will I retaliate? Will I be satisfied that I didn't sustain major injuries and let it go? I don't know.
Right now I am leaning towards just letting it go and being happy with the fact that I stood my ground, redirecting this energy to intensifying my training.
But when I am in a big group of people reminding me what happened I feel a deep pit of humiliation welling up inside me that quickly turns into a desire for blood. They owe me a blood debt and I have contemplated many different ways for me to exact my revenge.
I have been battling with these options since Saturday night and hopefully I will stick to the eightfold path I aspire to and let it guide me to an enlightened way of action.
This is just an example from my personal experience.

When I was practicing shotokan 5 yrs ago, there some guys who wanted to be fighter!! at the time of kumite they never matched my skills , I was too fast for them!! loosing every kumite, they treated me like an opponent not as a fellowmate!! what I saw in their eye was hatred and killer look how they can defeat me!! I just asked myself why to make enemies and opponents , frm then I pretended to lost to make my fellowmates happy!! and they were normal again as usual!! with face of pride i beat U!!
what a weird world!!
I ve no choice but to leave the dojo for their bad hearts they learned and earned how to make opponents and I learned how to live in peace!!
try to seek the true spirit of budo!!:)

Healthy competition is one thing, crazed vengeance is another. Did you speak to your instructor about these fellowmates?

It depends. If you get into a fight with a person, afterwards you should understand why this happened, and that it was a bad thing.

Exactly, so both theorys are correct. By theorys I mean "Fighting solves nothing" and "Fighting solves everything". It all depends on the ego/personality and stuborness of a person.

If you fought and survived thats great. Let the philosophers figure out the rest.

Suppose somebody picks a fight with you. You walk away.
Later on you find out that somebody went and killed someone that night. How does that make you feel? Had you acted, perhaps you could have prevented more violence? Just something to think about.

Thats a good point. :D its hard though, cos u wouldnt have known? hmmmm hehehe
to me if guys walk up to me in the street and try to start a fight i would always try everything to prevent it. just because why risk being injured? u dont know if they have weapons? and yes it will come back at you one day.
the only time i think id look for it is if i knew of sumone who had done sumthing to one of my friends like hit a gurl friend, or raped sumone ect ect.
i guess im trying to say is i think there is a time where fighting should be used and no questions asked. but then most times everything should be done to avoid a fight, because why make it so you have to watch you back all the time? so yes i think fighting does bring more fighting!
hmmm did i just make any sense i think i went off topic maby lol

its not really a set chain reaction it can happen that way but just cause you fight someone deosnt mean another fight will come of it. It may, may not. Ive fought one person, soon only to find myself surrounded by 8 opponents. ive also fought and nothing bad happened at all as far as consequese. all depends on who you fight, i guess.

Maybe you need to decide if you're fighting to repair your pride or fighting for a greater good. Will you fighting these guys stop their course of action? Will you be OK with the outcome, even if it means that you might get hurt, maimed or killed or you might hurt, maim or kill another? Will your actions increase or decrease the overall cycle of violence.
If you fight for pride, you will lose even if you win the fight.
If you fight for good, then you have to know what good is. Good to some is evil to others and irrelevant to others still.
